Antique American paperweights were "country
cousins" compared to the sophisticated French
paperweights. Although there were some
paperweights that were very exactly made, more
were somewhat more casual. Some of the
workmen came from France, bringing with them
their expertise, their ideas and, perhaps, even
pieces of glass that were incorporated into the
American paperweights.
Antique American weights exude a certain
freshness and charm that makes them very
appealing. Good quality weights are available
although not in as great quantity as the fine
French ones. In general, they are less costly than
their cousins from overseas.
