The Clichy
glass factory is no longer in existence. In the
19th century, it was located in a town of the
same name which was a suburb of Paris at that
time but is now a part of the city itself.
Clichy colors were outstanding: while soft,
they were very, very rich. Canes, often some form
of floret, were used to perfection in close,
spaced and patterned millefiori weights, set on
clear and muslin grounds, sometimes within stave
baskets, as mushrooms and more infrequently, on
a pedestal. Few Clichy weights were signed but
the 'Clichy rose' cane, made in many colors, is
considered to be almost as good as a signature
cane
