Justifiably famed for their paperweights of
the 19th century, this factory has been associated
with paperweight making throughout the years.
After the heyday in the mid nineteenth century,
production was again seen in the 1930's when
'Dupont' or 'late Baccarat' paperweights were
being sold at a small shop in Paris. Some
paperweights included false dates such as 1815 or
1848, perhaps in an attempt to make them into
instant antiques. But with an experienced eye, it
is not difficult to determine that these weights
were made in the mid 20th century.
Production of paperweights at Baccarat then
ceased until 1957 when Baccarat once again,
having been successful in rediscovering the
required techniques, began to make paperweights.
Baccarat paperweights are of excellent quality,
made with a high lead content crystal.
