Baccarat

One of the features that makes collecting paperweights so interesting is the connection these glass beauties have to history. This is especially true of sulfide paperweights. The J.F.K. edition had been in the works for some time before his tragic assassination. The first sample was received at the Baccarat factory about a week after the event. In an attempt to avoid the appearence of exploiting the tragedy, production was postponed for three months. In response to an overwhelming demand for these paperweights, this memorial issue was planned. (The original issue was still produced in the amounts as had been previously decided). With the deep amethyst ground and the extensive faceting, this was an issue of only 314. The cameo, by noted sculptor Albert David, 1963, is the same as the one in the originally planned paperweight.
