Peter Gentile, born in Naples, Italy on October 21, 1884, immigrated to the United States around 1907 and went to work for the Fry Glass Factory at Rochester, Pennsylvania in 1911. John Gentile was the son of Peter and his second wife Anna and was born on February 12, 1923. In 1947 Peter Gentile built a small glass factory in Star City, West Virginia. John Gentile went to work for his father after his return from army service. More about the Gentile Glass Works can be found in Jean Melvin's book "American Glass Paperweights and Their Makers."
